Teacher Yoane Kumbonyaki has been planting trees around the school grounds, with the help of the students at Ibba Girls Boarding School. Practising practical afforestation can establish a stand of trees in an area which saw no tree cover previously.
Yoane has also quoted the late Philemon Ndawa, with one of the school's mottos - "a pen and a hoe, that is the future." This indeed shows a very practical outworking of this important concept. The students have also learned that if one tree is cut down, it should be replaced with at least three more trees.
